Promoting Human Values

Promouvoir les valeurs humaines

Motif Exotikos:

Since 2012

Motif Exotikos is a multidisciplinary cultural and human development organization founded in 2012 by Caroline Allard Doucet. Its mission is to integrate artistic creation, education, and human-centered systems thinking in order to support personal development, intergenerational dialogue, and the preservation of collective memory. The organization operates through a hybrid model combining cultural production, experiential learning, and narrative research.

The main activities of Motif Exotikos include the design and facilitation of experiential programs, storytelling workshops, and cultural research projects. A central focus of its current mandate is the collection and preservation of life stories from seniors aged 80 and over. These sessions are structured to invite participants to share memories from when they were approximately 14 years old, capturing formative lived experiences, cultural environments, and historical perspectives. These narratives are then curated, edited, and developed into written works and books, ensuring that lived heritage and community memory are preserved and made accessible for future generations.

In addition to its memory-collection initiative, Motif Exotikos continues to develop interdisciplinary cultural projects that combine storytelling, visual arts, and reflective practices. These projects are designed to create meaningful dialogue between generations and to transform personal narratives into collective cultural archives. The work often integrates artistic interpretation with documentary-style writing, allowing individual memories to be preserved while also contributing to broader cultural understanding.

The organization also functions as a collaborative space for facilitators, writers, and community contributors involved in oral history, cultural documentation, and creative development. Depending on the project, activities may involve interviews, group storytelling circles, writing sessions, and editorial work aimed at producing publications rooted in lived experience.

The primary target group for Motif Exotikos is seniors aged 80 and above, particularly individuals whose life experiences reflect significant historical, cultural, and social transitions. The organization seeks to provide them with a structured and respectful space to share their stories, ensuring that their voices are documented and preserved. Secondary participants may include writers, researchers, and facilitators involved in the collection and transformation of these narratives into published works.

Motif Exotikos does not operate as a membership-based club or traditional social organization. Instead, it functions as an open cultural platform dedicated to the preservation of memory through storytelling and artistic documentation. Its activities are designed to be inclusive, accessible, and adaptable to participants’ needs, particularly those of older adults.

Overall, Motif Exotikos serves as an interdisciplinary initiative bridging oral history, cultural preservation, and creative writing. Its primary activities focus on safeguarding collective memory by transforming lived experiences into structured narratives that contribute to cultural continuity and intergenerational understanding.

The name Motif Exotikos ME/WE is a combination of two terms
  • Motif : Designates the determining cause, what drives one to act, to create, to do something. It is the intention or inspiration that motivates an action, an inner force that guides choices and achievements.

  • Exôtikos : Derived from ancient Greek "εξωτικός" (exôtikos), which means "stranger" or "external". This term evokes the idea of something that is introduced from the outside, often by human activity, and which brings a new or different perspective

Motif Exotikos symbolizes the idea of help that comes from the outside, and which drives to action. It is a representation of how external influences can provoke changes and inspire initiatives.
